Declan O’Donovan & Ryan McNally To Perform In Westport

From The Land Of The Midnight Sun – Yukoners Declan O’Donovan & Ryan McNally To Perform In Westport

Declan O’Donovan & Ryan McNally
Tuesday, May 7. 7:00pm
No cover
The Cove Inn – 2 Bedford St, Westport, ON K0G 1X0

Double-bill of roots & blues at The Cove Inn on May 7

When one thinks of the Yukon Territories, images are conjured up of the great white north, the Klondike Gold Rush and mountain men – not as a hotbed for blues and roots musicians. Two of the Yukon’s most popular young roots musicians, Declan O’Donovan and Ryan McNally, are coming together for a tour of Ontario.

This double-bill will showcase original material from O’Donovan and McNally, and surely a few surprises as they accompany each other on stage. The duo from the land of the midnight sun, along with drummer Lonnie Powell and bassist Keith Picot will be performing in Wesport on May 7th at The Cove Inn.

With a raw, gritty and unique voice, singer/pianist Declan O’Donovan is a master storyteller who draws his audiences in with evocative lyrics, a sense of humour just this side of dark, and a sweet melodic charm that is plain irresistible. Moving his deft fingers along the keyboard, swiftly changing from blues & roots rock to Canadiana and back again, this genre-bending singer/songwriter possesses a truly organic sound and a story (or two) to tell.

With more aliases then a stagecoach bandit, guitarist / singer-songwriter Ryan McNally is everywhere. Whether he’s playing with his own solo band, Old Time Machine, Dana Sipos, or various rockabilly outfits, he can’t be kept off Canadian stages. From rockabilly and blues to old-time and folk or even experimental pop, Ryan makes it all happen with grace, skill and plenty of pomade.

Quotes:
“Although comparisons to Tom Waits can be made, O’Donovan has a unique voice, and is emerging as an internationally-recognized songwriter and equally skilled as a musician.”
– Barry “Jack” Jenkins, What’s Up Yukon

“O’Donovan has a knack with melodies to be sure. His music is unfussy and modest yet it manages to coil into to heart and soul in a way that makes perfect sense. O’Donovan and his trio of mates cast a mighty spell and if moody yet hopeful is your bag then this set will please you to your core.”
– Jeff Monk, Uptown Magazine

“Ryan McNally, a young, stompin’ bluesman… ,impressed with his lonesome howl at his first ever show at the Grand.” -Grant Lawrence, CBC Radio 3

A reminder that the great TREASA LEVASSEUR – accompanied by guitarist David Baxter and bassist Brian Kobayakawa  – will be closing out the 2012 ACOUSTIC BLUE SUNDAY Dinner & Show Series at THE COVE INN, Westport this coming Sunday, SEPTEMBER 9th

Treasa is one of the best singer/songwriters on the Canadian – and international – Blues scene today.  Her voice has great power and range – it can whisper, cry, soar and blast you out of your seat – sometimes all in the same song! She’s a multiple Maple Blues Award and a Juno Award nominee. Her most recent album “Broad” is getting great airplay and should be a frontrunner for another Juno and Maple Blues Award nomination for best Blues Album Of The Year this year IMHO. This is her third visit to The Cove. She knocked us dead on the last two and this performance promises to be no exception. This is your last chance of the season to enjoy one of these magic evenings of delicious food and superb music.

Recap of Acoustic Blue Sunday Dinner & Show Series – The Cove

The Acoustic Blue Sunday Dinner & Show Series at The Cove Inn is drawing near to its end for this season – just one Show left, September 9th with TREASA LEVASSEUR & DAVID BAXTER – but it seems as if it is getting better with each show if that is possible. Canadian Folk Music Solo Artist Award winner, 2X Juno Award and 17X Maple Blues Award nominee MICHAEL JEROME BROWNE – along with his long time friend and percussionist JOHN McCOLGAN – came up from Montreal to play a wonderful evening August 26. We got a little of everything from soul to roots, blues, folk, country, Quebec/Cajun and it was all great. John on drums, washboard and triangle complimented him beautifully. There was a good contingent of his Quebec fans who followed him for the show plus a couple from Nashville and Memphis in the audience. See what they had to say below on their Comment Cards.

The Cove buffet was delicious as always with maple & dijon glazed ham, mango chutney salmon, potatoes, veggies, salads and a delicious chocolate mousse for dessert.

$350 was raised for the Rideau Valley Art Festival which was held this past weekend.

Join us for the last show of the series September 9, 2012 – From Toronto Juno Award and multiple Maple Blues Award nominee – fabulous singer/songwriter and keyboardist.
