Another August…Another Art Festival.

Now on it 31st year, the Rideau Valley Art Festival will be taking place again this year on August 24-26, 2012.

Located in the beautiful village of Westport on Upper Rideau Lake, in the heart of the historic Rideau Valley, the Festival is home to 63 artists this year. Proceeds from the exhibition fund many local and district community organizations.

It’s almost August, and we all know what happens on the fourth weekend of August – The Rideau Valley Art Festival. That’s right, mark your calendars on August 26-28, 2011. The Village of Westport will be packed full of visitors and artists as they all head to the Westport Community Centre for this annual event.

Rideau Valley Art FestivalBy searching out original works of art by well-known and new artists whose work is juried before acceptance, the Board of Directors ensures high-quality work and a showcase of exceptional talent. Artists will be on hand to answer your questions, and a variety of attractions promise something for everyone.

It’s sad but true, we are in the last month of the summer vacation. But a nice way to enjoy this time is by attending one of the many events happening this month.

Some events you might want to attend are:

“80’S Day” At The Galley
Date: August 7, 2010 (all day)
***Dress up in your favourite 80’s style to win a gift basket – door prizes for everyone who dresses up – Happy Hour at 80’s prices 4pm-6pm

Heather Assaf, printmaker and painter at Artemisia
Date: August 7, 2010 (from 11am – 4pm)
***Weather permitting Heather Assaf will be on the lawn at Artemisia explaining and showing the stages of a work from idea to completion.

Corn Roast – Simpson Masonic Lodge
Date: August 7, 2010
***Forfar Community Hall in Forfar beginning at 4:30. Open to everyone.

Local poets at Artemisia – Audrey Ogilvie | Anders Carson | John Donlan
Date: August 8, 2010 (2-4pm)
***They will be reading from their current works – Refreshments at intermission
$5.00 at the door

The Westport Music Festival
Date: August 14, 2010
***9 bands on 3 outdoor stages – special evening performance at The Cove

Fill your soul with art

One of the biggest weekends in Westport each year is the Rideau Valley Art Festival. It will be back again from Friday, Aug. 21 to Sunday, Aug. 23 at the Westport Community Centre.

You’ll see original (juried) work from a variety of artists. At the same time, the Rideau Lakes Artists Association will hold a special exhibition. So will the local decorative painters. It will be a whole-weekend feast for the eyes.

Come one come all!!!

Come by boat, car, air, or on foot.

Be sure and take the time to visit the Original Art Exhibition located in the Westport Community Center. It begins on Friday, August 21 at 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Continues through Saturday, August 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
