WWI Commemoration
On November 8-9, the Elgin and Area Heritage Society has prepared a World War 1 Commemoration event in honour of the men and women from North Leeds (Bastard and South Burgess, Newboro North Crosby, South Crosby, Westport). The EAHS has assembled a large amount of information and material relating to this division, which used the school yard of the Red Brick School as their training ground, of the 156th Leeds-Grenville Battalion.
The event includes displays, a slide presentation, live music with guest speakers at 1PM on both days: Saturday, Nov 8 11am-4pm and Sunday Nov 9 1-4pm at the Red Brick School, Elgin. Of particular interest is the resonance of these names for the descendants of many of the individuals listed in the displays continue to reside in our area today.
