Curl up and read

Geese are starting to fly over Westport and the Rideau Lakes. We know what that means: Fall is just around the corner. Soon it will be time to curl up with a good book.

You don’t have to go far to find one around here. There are six public libraries in the area — in Elgin, Portland, Newboro, Delta, South Elmsley, and Westport.

That’s a lot of books. In addition, there is computer and Internet access, large print books, videos, DVDs and a microfilm reader in Elgin. There are children’s books, reference books, “how-to” books, and best-selling fiction. You can read about gardening, sewing, flower-arranging, boat-building. You can be scared out of your wits with mysteries and thrillers, or swept away to an enchanted island with romances.

Light the fire, get a blanket, pour a cup of tea, and the world of reading is yours – all within our Westport-Rideau Lakes neighbourhood.

See us from the inside

Walk right in and say hello. The doors will be open all over Westport and Rideau Lakes on Saturday, Sept. 19.

You may want to make a list and tick off the “doors” as you go. You might also want to begin right at 10 a.m. when they open, because there are lots of them.

Doors Open, part of a province-wide heritage event, will include, in this area, doors in Chaffey’s Lock, Delta, Elgin, Lombardy, Morton, Newboro, Portland, and Westport. For a more detailed list, go to www.doorsopenontario.ca and look for Rideau Lakes-Westport. Or look for a Doors Open publication at local libraries and municipal offices.

Come and see this beautiful area – from the inside. You’ll be warmly welcomed.
