Jake’s Gift
A Journey to Juno Beach
Written and Performed by Julia Mackey

While revisiting the shores of Juno beach for the 60th Anniversary of the D-Day landings, World War II veteran Jake encounters Isabelle, a precocious 10-year-old from the local village. Her inquisitive nature and charm challenge the old soldier to make peace with his past.

A multi-award winning tour-de-force, Jake’s Gift uses the legacy of remembrance to make personal the story behind one soldier’s memories.

She Loves Me
A Musical Romantic Comedy
Book by Joe Masteroff, Music by Jerry Bock, Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick

Set in a bustling 1930s parfumerie, coworkers Georg and Amalia are constantly bumping heads. Both escape the stresses of their lives by secretly writing passionate letters full of longing to anonymous pen pals- completely unaware they are actually writing to each other! When Georg discovers who his “Dear Friend” has been from the start, he finds himself re-evaluating their relationship; was it love in disguise all along?

Based on the same story as the hit films “You’ve Got Mail” and “Little Shop Around the Corner”, this witty and warm-hearted Tony Award-winning romantic comedy is full of show-stopping tunes- a perfect musical gem!

The Importance of Being Earnest
A Sparkling Classic Comedy
By Oscar Wilde

Wealthy playboys Jack and Algernon have been leading double lives to escape from the humdrum of polite society. But when they both begin to use the same alias “Ernest” to woo different women, hilarious chaos erupts! Complete with a flurry of mistaken identities, witty banter and cucumber sandwiches, this scintillating comedy will have you laughing out loud!

RETHINKING REMEMBRANCE

A Guest Speaker Series

Join us for a FREE post-show discussion following every Friday night performance of Jake’s Gift.

Friday, July 4th, 9pm

Thirty years ago Kingston writer Jamie Swift accompanied his combat veteran father on a return visit to the battlefields of Normandy. The author of “Warrior Nation: Rebranding Canada in an Age of Anxiety” shares his thoughts on the often conflicted ways we remember war.

Friday, July 11th, 9pm

Normandy has its cemeteries and monuments in remembrance of soldiers and civilians that died on their soil. All Canadian cities have their own monuments. Amateur historians and educators Dave Wyatt and Paul Cox will talk about the creation of Kingston’s memorial walk, which will tell the stories of local soldiers and their families.

Friday July 18th, 9pm

Honour in Grief and Hope – Dave Hueglin, a teacher at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic School Board, will talk about the work he is doing in his classroom to link the lessons learned from war and other conflicts to day-to-day interaction with others.

Friday, July 25th, 9pm

Over the past decade, Barbara Brough and Dave Ingram from Trinity College School have led 400+ grade 10 students to the battlefields and cemeteries of Europe. Through their travels, they have engaged students in interactive learning, educating them about the impact of war and the importance of remembrance.
