JULY 2019 Events at The Cove

Come to The Cove in July

We just finished Canada Day Weekend at The Cove in the village of Westport and surrounding area!

The Fredenburgh House.

There is no one sadder than all of us at The Cove to see the demise due to a fire in January and subsequent of the beautiful Fredenburgh House , which we have  lived in and enjoyed for almost 35 years. You would have look at the structure and say it doesn’t really look that damaged by the fire and you would be right. The experts tell us that more fire damage is done by water and smoke than by fire. Thousands of litres of water were pumped into the attic of the house to prevent the fire from spreading last January. The Fire Department did an admirable job under very difficult conditions. This water has lodged in the walls, ceiling and floors for months and, with warmer weather, is now resulting in mold and would have to be removed back to the frame if we were to restore the house. Estimators have put the cost in the millions and that is prohibitive to us financially. We hope you will understand and feel our pain as well. Thanks, and rest assured that, going into the future, we will make the Inn stronger and more appealing than it’s ever been.

Mary, Terry and Seamus Cowan

Music and the Party

The weekly summer schedule is now here! There is music every week from Wednesday to Sunday! Some new artists, some returns and some completely out there! We had Manacanabo all lined up from Cuba on Jul.27 but they were denied their travel visas because of complications with immigration in Havana. We were so looking forward to them. We thank Ish Theilheimer for his hard work on trying. Perhaps sometime down the road soon. Check out our Events Calendar for July below OR online http://coveinn.com/index.php/events/

Food and Drink

Enjoy the new dishes on our all day menu! We have been enjoying serving exciting new bottles of wine, cans of beer, beers on tap and weekly signature cocktails to serve at The Cove! Very excited to have these new additions to go with your meal or on their own!

Don”t forget, buy 10 lunches, get one free! Ask your server to get your card!

Morgan Davis at the Cove Inn

Master of Traditional Country Blues with a humorous angle. Former David Wilcox band member. International Electro-fi Recording Artist, JUNO and Maple Blues Award Winner. Don’t miss this incredible solo one-night stand!

For 45 years Morgan Davis has been on the road travelling across Canada, the United States and Europe. His performances draw from a rich tradition of country blues, as well as his own contemporary songs infused with wit and a large dose of humour.

Originally from Detroit, Davis grew up listening to a prolific mix of rhythm and blues. The music of Jimmy Reed, Ike and Tina Turner, Chuck Berry and Fats Domino was in the air. He later moved to California with his family, and then in 1968 left for Canada.

While living in Rochdale College, Toronto’s mecca for the subculture of the late 1960’s, he immersed himself in the study of Delta Blues, especially the music of Robert Johnson. Toronto’s music scene in the early 1970’s was the perfect place for Davis to cut his teeth as a journeyman, having the opportunity to see and play with many legendary performers. Bukka White, Johnny Shines, Sunnyland Slim, Snooky Pryor, Hubert Sumlin, and John Hammond were encouraging supporters.

Grant Fullerton at the Cove Inn

The 4th Annual RETURN of the GREAT “GRANT FULLERTON” formerly of Canadian Classic Rock Band “Lighthouse”!

To watch Grant Fullerton perform is to experience a one man powerhouse. His unique style and unparalleled guitar playing has to be heard to be believed. He performs a variety of songs from the sixties to the nineties with passion and conviction.

In December 1969 Grant Fullerton and Pinky Dauvin joined Skip Prokop and Paul Hoffert in Lighthouse, a 13-piece rock group combining horns, violins, cellos and vibes with the traditional rock and roll instruments of guitar, bass and drums. The band debuted at the Rockpile in Toronto on May 14, 1969.
They signed a contract with RCA Victor shortly thereafter, released three albums on Victor before moving onto GRT. Fullerton left amidst their biggest hit period.

Grant would also go on to play in such low-key acts as Mudflat and Friends before putting together Fullerton Dam with drummer Steve Negus (who would to on to gave fame with Saga) and who released one album on Condor Records called ‘Breaks’ before disbanding.

He also tried his hand with The Madcats who released several records in the late ’70’s before going solo as Grant Fullerton. The solo stint led to the release of the single “Lenny” and Grant put a backing band behind him to tour. The Grant Fullerton band would later get signed to Freedom Records and release several singles from the EP ‘My Mind And My Music’.

Logan Brown and Taylor Angus at the Cove Inn

One Man Band, Funky Fingerstyle Guitar with Neo-Soul Vocals! That’s these two talented musicians…
Logan Brown is a guitar player and singer/song-writer unlike any you have ever heard. Blending the lazy backbeat of funk, the virtuosity of fusion, and the story telling of soul and blues he is a spectacle to witness live, the listener is taken on a journey through decades of influence and transported to the future.

Getting his start in his hometown of Kingston, Ontario, Logan donned a pseudonym that would later evolve into a full fledged character, in the same vein as Ziggy Stardust or Sasha Fierce, called NUBS. After releasing three records under this name Logan realised it was time for a change.

After the release of his second EP “Spend The Night” Logan found himself putting away the bells and whistles he used to use when writing and beginning to extract all that he could out of his voice and his guitar. Instead of thrusting the listener into this brand new NUBS, Logan decided it was better to put an end to the pseudonym and continue his story without the nickname.

Logan still performs all of his music released under NUBS as well as brand new songs pushing the boundaries of music and guitar playing. As a full time professional musician he is always writing and learning, no two shows will be the same, the only option is to catch Logan whenever and wherever he is playing next.

Hear him here with his fiancée and musical partner Taylor Angus. She sings like an angel.
