What’s cooking in Westport

Cook together in the community kitchen on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month! What’s Cooking in Westport is on the 1st Tuesday each month (10am-1pm) at the Free Methodist Church! Learn new skills, take home food. Childcare is available.

Join us to try new foods and recipes, share a meal, bring extras home, have a good time, and meet new people in your community. We pick the recipes together, focusing on local, seasonal, budget-friendly ingredients. Some months we have a specific cultural theme, a guest speaker from the community, or a special event.

The group is facilitated by Registered Dietitian, Kate Earl, from Country Roads Community Health Centre. We discuss different nutrition and food safety topics each month and members share healthy eating tips with each other.

The program is FREE. There is no cost to participate. We also offer free childcare. Please ask us if you need help with travel costs. All we ask from you is that you participate in the cooking (and clean up!), come ready to have fun, and be open to trying new foods.

Westport Figure Skating Club

The Westport Area Skating Club has been an integral part of the Westport community for over 30 years.

The club offers learn-to-skate programs, adult skating, figure skating lessons, and hockey development programs. We are always happy to have new members and we look forward to seeing you on the ice!

Figure Skating is the heart of the Westport Area Skating Club! The figure skating program caters to the young and young-at-heart with members ranging from 7 to 57! The skating program in Westport offers an atmosphere of fun, friendship, and fitness rolled into one.

Like the other programs the skating club offers, the figure skating program is a Skate Canada sanctioned program. Skate Canada’s STARSkate program offers oppurtunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of dance, skating skills, free skate, and interpretive skating. Skaters have the option of taking private or group lesssons depending on their skill level and lesson availability. If the skater chooses, he or she can participate in the nationally standardized testing systems. This allow your son or daughter (or you!) to set personal goals and develop the skills needed to reach their goals at his or her own pace.

Jazz Night with Spencer Evans

The Cove Inn hosts one of the most original and memorable Live Music Experiences you’ll have! The Popular Spencer Evans Trio with Andy Love on drums, Seamus Cowan on bass and Spencer Evans on piano, clarinet and vocals has proven a formidable three performing all styles of music to huge crowds of all ages. The party has been going for over 21 years now! Join us for dinner too… The Trio plays select dates throughout the year and EVERY THURSDAY from Victoria Day Weekend to Thanksgiving Long Weekend. Call The Cove 1.888.COVE.INN to make reservations and confirm dates.

SPENCER EVANS was born in Picton, grew up around the Quinte area, and graduated from B.C.I. Spencer plays piano, clarinet, accordion, sings, dances, prances and has been a professional musician for the past 15 years. He has played Bermuda to Bosnia, New Orleans to the North Pole, and has recorded and toured with The Cowboy Junkies, Sarah Harmer and Pat Temple, and has performed with Jeff Healey, Dan Aykroyd, Willie P. Bennett, Jack Mahieu, Alex Pangman, Maria Muldaur, and Toronto’s Swing Gang, among countless others. Spencer has appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, CBC Radio’s The Vinyl Café with Stuart McLean, MUCHmusic and CMT. A resident of Kingston for several years, Spencer keeps busy playing with numerous local bands such as Bloom, Pico de Gallo, Ghetto Xpress, The River Cats and various jazzy combos.

SEAMUS COWAN plays the low bass and sings the high notes…Kind of strange but it works. He has played all kinds of music in his career so he fits right in.

ANDY LOVE has a solid synergy with the boys. His drumming is some of the tastiest around and his ferocity is difficult to tame, behind the kit that is. He has performed with Spencer for over 30 years now and has a brotherly connection with him on stage. He is also very lyrical in his playing style as well as the fact that he sings as well! Together, the trio are a powerful combination!

JAZZ NIGHT will continue EVERY THURSDAY from the May Long Weekend to Thanksgiving Weekend. The Trio plays select dates throughout the year and is available for special events and weddings and more! Contact Spencer Evans at spencer_evans@yahoo.com for more information.
