Original Thursdays – Steve Stacey + Pat Robillard

Steve Stacey is a throwback to the days of storytelling in song, contemplating life with humour, unique observations and truth that is too obscure to be a lie. Armed with songs about cars, lost love, drinking, the occasional murder ballad, no topic is off limits. Steve will keep you on your toes trying to figure out what will he say next. Working on a new album of original songs, Steve has 2 cd’s of original material “Sounded Good at the Time” and “Tall Tales Fibs and Outright lies” which was described in Exclaim magazine -Steve Stacey and company have carjacked Buck Owens, rear-ended John Prine and made off with (at least) a vat of homemade whiskey to create this set of infectious masterpieces.

Pat Robillard, the guitar wielding wizard from the outer reaches of Ottawa. Pat has been playing with Steve for over 15 years, lending his authentic guitar sounds to the band; (Acoustic, Electric and Steel). Pat has been plying his craft of guitar playing since before he was just a wisp of a boy sifting through Guitar Player magazine in a lonely bedroom somewhere in the hiddens of Ottawa. Taking cues from Jerry Reed, Don Rich, and Eddie Van Halen, Pat wraps all them up and twists them into an original sound like no other. You name it he can play it!

Shenanigans – Anne Archer + Jon McLurg

Shenanigans are floutist Anne Archer and Jon McLurg with an east coast folk sound of old. Cozy up with them on Friday, January 24th 2025 from 5-8pm.

Jon is a singer-songwriter based in Kingston, Ontario. Jon has been a staple of the local folk music scene for more than 15 years as a solo performer and member of Turpin’s Trail, Crooked Wood, and The Goodnight Irenes. He has recorded four solo albums of original material, including his most recent album, North Star, released in 2020.

An accomplished and prolific songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, this quietly confident artist was noticed on the international scene in 2010 when he was chosen as one of only 10 performers for the songwriter showcase at The New Jersey Folk Festival. That same year, he also won American Songwriter Magazine’s lyric contest in their July/August 2010 issue with Someone Thinks of You from The Auctioneer.

Jon is also a masterful interpreter of song, with a dizzying mental catalogue of 100s of cover songs spanning traditional and contemporary folk, classic country, bluegrass, Celtic and much more. A Jon McLurg performance can touch on dozens of legendary songwriters such as Townes van Zandt, Elizabeth Cotten, Woody Guthrie, Carter Family, Lead Belly, Mississippi John Hurt, John Prine, and Hank Williams, along with songs and melodies from time immemorial.

As one of southeastern Ontario’s busiest performers, Jon McLurg has opened for Fred Eaglesmith, Tom Wilson (Junkhouse, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings), and David Francey. He’s also collaborated with J.P. Cormier, award-winning fiddler Jess WeddenTeilhard Frost (Sheesham & Lotus), and many other area musicians. Jon maintains a dedicated fan base particularly on Canada’s east coast, where Jon completed a 36 date tour in 2022 and another 30 dates in 2023. He typically performs over 200 shows a year in coffeehouses, theatres, pubs, Legion halls, and concert halls.
